Addiction, occult experimentation, hallucination, and spiritual danger pull the protagonist across a psychological threshold. This is the inciting incident of the Motion Picture universe — the moment the descent begins and the line between inner terror and external reality starts to disappear.
Isolation, depression, addiction, and the urge to escape reality converge in the EP’s darkest emotional descent — the point where the world inside the mind becomes easier to inhabit than the one outside it.
